Stitch an area of swirls, as described in Swirls (page 34). Stitch a long stem that leads away from the swirl area. STEP 2. Stitch a single swirl for the daisy center. STEP 3. When you arrive back to your starting point at the end of the stem, stitch 6 pointed daisy petals all the way around the center swirl.

You can use this with any feather design. Just be sure that you have left enough room on the outside of the feathers to add the extra stitching. 2 STEP 1. Stitch the feathers as in Rounded Feathers (page 57), but be sure to end each feather at least 1/2˝ away from the border edge. After you finish stitching your feathers, move about 1/4˝ away from the outside edges of the feathers and stitch an “echo” line all the way along. STEP 2. When you have finished one side, repeat stitching the feathers and adding an echo line all along the other side.

STEP 3. Continue stitching closely packed motifs until you have covered the entire area in a wood-grain pattern. 1 2 3 Background Fillers 51 Clams Pattern is on page 172. Stitch a second “echo”; then stitch a second clam going in a different direction.
